- | adaptation of the game Missile Command. You
- | must defend your cities from an aerial
- | attack, using either the mouse or keyboard
- | to aim and fire your missiles. There are
- | smart bombs, MIRVs, and bonus cities just
- | like the classic arcade game. A 386 or
- | better is recommended.
- AFORCE.COM 18314 11-13-90 Alien Force 1.0 (Epps, Robert; $0) is a
- | Windows version of an old pre-PC Apple game
- | in which you guide your spaceship around a
- | grid, blasting away at the enemy ships.
- BANGBANG.ZIP 35158 12-06-93 Bang! Bang! (Lutton, David B. II; $10) is an
- | artillery game for Windows 3.0. One or two
- | players may participate. Players take turns
- | firing their cannons at each other, taking
- | angle, velocity, and wind speed into
- | consideration. The player who blows their
- | opponent to smithereens is the winner.
- BDP150.ZIP 170647 10-06-93 Stardate 2140.2: Battles on Distant Planets
- | 1.5 (Glacier Edge Technology; $15-$43) is a
- | complex sci-fi battlefield strategy game for
- | Windows. In the scenario provided, you must
- | use your troops, tanks, rocket launchers,
- | jets, and helicopters to destroy all
- | opposing force units before they take over
- | the world. You can play against the
- | computer, against a human opponent, or watch
- | the computer battle itself. SoundBlaster
- | compatible cards are supported. Over 400K of
- | disk space is required.
- BLITZER.EXE 70880 12-18-91 Blitzer 1.2 (Sherman, Steve; $10) is a
- | "Defenders" type of video game in which you
- | fly a helicopter, try to rescue the good
- | guys, shoot down the bad guys, etc. The
- | graphics are good, with a scrolling,
- | mountainous background. (The author can no
- | longer be reached at the address provided in
- | the documentation.)
- BLOK_BR.ZIP 54547 10-20-93 Block Breaker 3.13E (Emura, Yutaka; $10) is
- | a colorful Windows version of the old
- | Breakout type game. Several challenging
- | screens are included with four different
- | speed options. WIN31 sound and MIDI are
- | supported.
- BRICKWN.EXE 6914 11-29-92 Brick ($0) is a simple version of the
- | classic Breakout type game.
- BUGS.EXE 19123 07-02-92 Bugs! 1.0 (Oasis Software; $5) is an amusing
- | arcade game for Windows. You must navigate
- | around 10 rooms, collecting keys and
- | avoiding deadly bugs and electrified walls.
- BUGSWAT.ZIP 17593 09-26-93 Angela's Bug Swat (Michael J. Murphy; $1) is
- | a cute desktop game where you swat at bugs
- | with the mouse cursor. Features include
- | several bug speed options and WAV sound
- | support. Requires VBRUN300.
- CHOMP.COM 25529 06-14-91 Chomp 1.1 (Shekhel, Jerry J.; $20) is a
- | faithful adaptation of Pac-Man for Windows.
- | The animation is great and it is a lot of
- | fun to play.
- COLUMNS.EXE 20551 11-20-92 Columns for Windows 1.2 (Rotenstein, John;
- | $0) is a "falling block" game in which you
- | must arrange the colors on the falling
- | blocks into rows of three or more before
- | they hit the bottom of the shaft.
- EMLITH.EXE 30739 02-19-93 Emlith 3.0 (Emura, Yutaka; $10) is a falling
- | block game in which you can choose from up
- | to sixty different shapes of falling blocks.
- | You can also choose the block shape for your
- | game, or you can select the "Challenge Mode"
- | which uses multiple shapes. Other features
- | include user selectable sound, oil-slicked
- | blocks, exploding bombs, and more.
- EMPIPE.EXE 83113 04-16-93 EmPipe 1.01E (Emura, Yutaka; $10) is a
- | pipe-laying type game. You must select
- | sections of pipe to direct the flow of
- | liquid from the starting point to the ending
- | point. The mouse cursor will change into the
- | next available pipe shape to speed play
- | along. Other features include music, sound
- | effects, high score listing, and more.
- HERMAN.EXE 32900 02-18-92 Herman and the Falling Rocks 1.01 (Bieling,
- | Carl; $15-$30) is an amusing and challenging
- | maze game. Your mission is to collect as
- | many flowers as you can without letting any
- | of the rocks fall on your head. If a rock
- | hits you, then you die and have to repeat
- | the level. There are a total of six levels,
- | and you will have to die many times before
- | you figure them all out.
- HEX_TET.EXE 19968 10-25-90 Hex-Tet is a falling block games which uses
- | objects made up of polygons which, without
- | looking very radical, add a whole new
- | perspective to the game.
- HURRI1.ZIP 305824 06-21-93 Hurricane 1.01 (Systems Software Developing,
- | Inc.; $15) is an excellent adaptation of the
- | classic arcade game Tempest. For those of
- | you too young to remember, your firing
- | cursor travels around a variety of geometric
- | mazes while you try to shoot the bad guys
- | that come from the center.
- HYPROID.EXE 30166 11-14-91 Hyperoid 1.1 (Hutchins, Edward; $0) is a
- | clone of the old arcade game Asteroids. This
- | is a pretty faithful adaptation with lots of
- | interesting twists that make for addictive
- | arcade action.
- JEWLTHF.ZIP 69131 10-14-93 Jewel Thief 1.4 (Ligeski, Paul ASP; $10) is
- | a mouse-driven arcade game where you try to
- | steal as many jewels as you can while
- | avoiding the ever-present guards. Once you
- | steal all the jewels on a level, a trickier
- | set of guards appears. You start out with
- | nine men, and you lose a man (or more) each
- | time a guard touches you or you leave the
- | playing field.
- MAGNETO.ZIP 55006 07-27-93 Magneto .90 (Marc-Thomas Clifton; $?) is an
- | arcade game in which you move your magnetic
- | pieces by reversing polarity.
- MCBLAST.EXE 21205 02-19-92 MacBlaster 1.10 (Gehr, Earl; $10) You have
- | challenged the Evil Fruit Empire's monopoly
- | on their graphic user interface, and they
- | are not at all happy about it. Their
- | smiley-faced computers hurl exploding mice
- | and destructive copyright lawsuits at you.
- | Your only weapon is an infinite supply of
- | rotten apple cores which you hurl defiantly
- | at the corporate Goliaths. Can you beat the
- | Empire and give computer users freedom of
- | choice? (In case our description was too
- | subtle for you: this is a Space Invaders
- | game with an anti-Apple Corp. bias.)
- PLANAR.EXE 98842 11-11-92 Planaria (Douglass, Bruce Powel; $0) is a
- | Windows version of the classic Snake type
- | game. You wander the screen as a hungry
- | worm, devouring cute little kittens and
- | avoiding all obstacles (including your own
- | ever-lengthening tail). Each time you ingest
- | a feline holes appear in your tail,
- | providing additional escape routes.
- | (Requires BWCC.DLL from the RUNTIMES
- | directory.)
- PYTHON.ZIP 45185 12-06-93 Paulie Python 1.0 (Way Out West-ware;
- | $5-$15) is an exciting Windows variation of
- | the old "snake" game. Your job is to slither
- | around the eight imaginative mazes devouring
- | all the mice and avoiding walls. To make
- | things more difficult, your tail grows after
- | you eat a mouse and other surprise obstacles
- | are scattered about.
- RUNNER.ZIP 137863 08-16-88 Runner 1.0 (SouthBay Software; $20) is a
- | fast and fun animated game for Windows. Your
- | runner must go from level to level turning
- | on control lights and gathering fuel
- | cannisters. Unfortunately, there is a rather
- | nasty enemy runner looking to throw you to
- | your death and turn off the control lights.
- | Along the way you will encounter bouncing
- | colored marbles that both help and hinder
- | your progress, a wizard that will grant you
- | another life, teleportation pods, and much
- | more. Other features include a MIDI music
- | soundtrack, interesting sound effects, and
- | keyboard/mouse/joystick support.
- SCW103D.EXE 285701 09-20-91 Second Conflict for Windows (Galloway, Jerry
- | W.; $0) the leader of the Empire has died
- | without an heir, leaving the Galaxy in utter
- | chaos. You are in command of one fleet and
- | one solar system, and up to four people can
- | play this incredible game of galactic
- | supremacy. You must use scouts to
- | investigate nearby star systems and decide
- | which ones are worth colonizing and which
- | are worth fighting for. You can also look at
- | what opponents are building to determine the
- | size of your attack fleet, and build
- | transports to move troops and colonists to
- | other star systems. Although the author
- | refers to this as a "demo" version, it
- | contains more than enough features to keep
- | any gamer's interest. The graphics and
- | playability are excellent, and help and
- | strategy hints are always available. 640K
- | and at least an EGA monitor are required.
- SEMA.ZIP 223900 08-12-93 Space Exploration-Mission Alpha (Jeffrey R.
- | Marken; $15) is an excellent Windows
- | adaptation of the classic arcade game Lunar
- | Lander. You must safely land your spacecraft
- | on the treacherous terrain of several
- | different planets, each with varying amounts
- | of gravity and special obstacles. You must
- | also successfully dock with an orbiting
- | craft after your landing, keeping a careful
- | eye or your fuel level and
- | horizontal/vertical speed.
- SNK_KLP.EXE 67059 12-18-91 Snakes (Patch, Kevin L.; $15) is a very
- | fast-paced game in which you must kill
- | snakes without letting them kill you. You
- | can't "win" this game. When you kill a
- | snake, another snake takes its place. Play
- | continues until you lose three lives.
- SPACEW.EXE 86426 05-21-92 Space Walls II (Taub, Adam; $0) is a
- | difficult little game in which the object is
- | to shoot the center of rotating walls, while
- | avoiding flying into the walls or being hit
- | by the two defending saucers. Many options
- | are available to customize game play.
- SPACRCK.ZIP 252629 07-27-92 Space Rocks (Adam J. Taub; $20) is an
- | Asteroids-style arcade game.
- TETWIN.EXE 18380 11-14-91 TetWin (Briatico, Joe; $5) is a very
- | attractive and challenging game of Tetris.
- | The column width can be adjusted from 6 to
- | 22 columns, and you can change the size of
- | falling objects from 4 to 7 squares. There
- | are nine levels of play, and you can also
- | play a game with stationary pieces already
- | in place.
- TGUNNER.ZIP 96880 09-13-93 TailGunner 1.0a (Diversions Software; $15)
- | is an action-packed space combat simulation.
- | You are the tail-turret gunner of a
- | futuristic spaceship, and must fight off
- | hundreds of hostile ships as you try to
- | escape enemy territory. Plasma cannons and
- | pulse lasers are your main weapons, and an
- | optional lock-shoot indicator helps you blow
- | the bad guys out of the sky. Other features
- | include 256-color graphics, WAV sound
- | support, and more. Requires VBRUN300.
- WARHEAD.ZIP 106879 12-06-93 Warheads for Windows (Steadle, Eric; $17) is
- | an excellent version of the arcade classic
- | Missile Command. Your job is to protect your
- | cities from an unending onslaught of
- | incoming missiles. Watch out for the dreaded
- | Bomber, which appears from nowhere to pepper
- | the skies with deadly Smart Bombs. The
- | graphics and playability are very good. On
- | two different test systems, when we first
- | started the game, it ran very slowly. We
- | restarted Windows and the game, and it ran
- | at a more normal speed.
- WINCMD.COM 14378 06-19-91 Windows Command 1.0 (Baldwin, Timothy G.;
- | $3) is an adaptation of the arcade game
- | Missile Command.
- WINDOG.ZIP 219079 08-11-93 Prairie Dog Hunt 1.0 for Windows (Diversions
- | Software; $15) is based on the cutesy arcade
- | game where you bean helpless prairie dogs
- | with a hammer as they emerge from their
- | holes. However, in this game you have a
- | choice of high-powered firearms and get to
- | blast the furry little pests into a bloody
- | stain. The impressive 256-color animated
- | graphics and digitized sound effects make
- | the massacre all the more enjoyable. You can
- | control the number of dogs, and how many
- | rounds of ammo you get. Watch out for the
- | occasional rabid rodent, because if you get
- | bitten five times you will die of rabies.
- WINLAND.EXE 25466 12-12-91 Lander 1.1 (TMA; $0) is patterned after the
- | arcade game Lunar Lander.
- WINTRIS.COM 16062 09-05-90 WinTris 3.0 (Kipnis Enterprises; $15) is a
- | falling block game with lots of options
- | available. The graphics and playability are
- | excellent.
- WORMWAR.COM 9282 07-23-90 WormWar is a rather FAST version of the old
- | game of Centipede. By slowing our 486 down
- | to 15mhz, we got it to run at a reasonable
- | pace. Good color graphics on a VGA.
- WOWSPL.ZIP 102976 09-15-93 WOWSpill (World of Windows Software ASP;
- | $15) is an arcade strategy game where you
- | must connect random pieces of pipe from a
- | water faucet to a drain. Extra points are
- | awarded for using the bonus pieces and for
- | creating intersections. There are three
- | different board sizes available, each with
- | its own high score board. This is a
- | fast-paced, non-violent "thinking" game
- | suitable for the whole family. Requires VGA
- | and 1 meg of free disk space.
- WSLAM.ZIP 44672 10-11-93 Slam! 1.0 (Epps, Robert; $10) is an
- | excellent air hockey game for Windows 3.1.
- | It allows you to play on a 3-D table against
- | a computerized opponent with adjustable
- | speed and aggressiveness. You may also
- | customize screen colors and the overhead
- | view angle. A 386 or better CPU is required.
- ZANTI1.ZIP 246964 10-20-93 Zanti! 1.2b (Sheaffer, Patrick; $5) is an
- | exciting multi-media arcade game. You must
- | guide the Zanti aliens into the hands of
- | Earth's military. This is accomplished by
- | connecting pieces of a tunnel from the
- | invader's ship to an ending piece. If you
- | have played any of the ôPipe Dreamö type
- | games, you'll understand how this works.
- | There are great 256-color graphics and
- | digitized WAV files to add to the enjoyment
- | of the game.
